2017 Service Medal

The 2017 Service Medal is a collectible display item awarded to players who reached Global General Rank 40 during the 2017 service year and chose to reset their Profile Rank. It appears on a player’s profile as proof of playtime and progression from that year. Unlike weapon skins, it is not an equipable finish and does not affect gameplay.

It means the player reached Rank 40 in the 2017 service year and claimed the annual medal by resetting their rank. The medal marks account progression during that specific year, and higher-tier versions indicate that the player repeated the Rank 40 grind multiple times before the yearly medal rotation ended.

To get the 2017 Service Medal, a player had to reach Profile Rank 40 during 2017 and then select the option to reset their rank in exchange for the medal. This was only available during the 2017 service period, so it can no longer be earned today. Players can only obtain current-year service medals through the active CS2 ranking system.

The highest level of the 2017 Service Medal is the red tier, which represents the maximum upgrade stage for that year’s medal. Players started with the base version after the first Rank 40 reset, then upgraded it by reaching Rank 40 and resetting again multiple times within 2017. Higher colors are less common because they required substantially more XP and consistent play over the full service year.
